"As a child, under my grandmother's watchful eye , I learnt many valuable life lessons... steeped in the selfless tradition of sharing information and knowledge in which to benefit others. Being raised in the Caribbean, I was extremely fortunate to experience an amazing quality of life obtained through living in a pollution free environment (drinking 'clean' rain & spring water, breathing 'clean' air); on a rich diet of natural foods; good old fashioned home-cooking; home-made herbal remedies and on the spiritual belief that the 'universal creator' has provided adequately and abundantly for all our needs through nature. Acknowledging 'food' as their main life-source, my ancestors would also pray for blessings, healing & guidance at every stage of its development from tilling the soil, planting the seeds, harvesting the crops to the final preparation of each meal or remedy. Back then, sickness was rare and like my great-grandmother (an African Spiritual Herbalist and midwife) who lived to 113 years; yet looked no more than 70; was physically strong; fit, with an impeccable memory; excellent eye sight; all her teeth & hair and amazing skin.. this was the norm for the majority of Afro-Caribbeans."
"This was the blue print that has shaped my life".
"In 1964 (age 15), I moved to the United Kingdom with my parents and siblings. However by 1987, whilst raising my children, I noticed that the nation's health was deteriorating out of control. This made me reflect on my ancestors' superior quality of life and pondered on 'what they knew for sure' about family values, health & longevity - and then realised that the nation's health could be restored if they followed the same path. Unlike the United Kingdom today, where the National Health Service and local doctors are always at hand, in my ancestors' time Afro-Caribbean women (especially wives and mothers) had to learn the 'essential life skills' that covered all aspects of natural healthcare from which to care for themselves and their family.
Therefore, I created my business GRAMMA'S (named in my late-Grandmother's loving memory) because I wanted to take-care of people in the same way my grandmother took care of me... by providing the best nature has to offer; teaching basic life skills; sharing information to help make informed choices about health; build a strong relationship based on mutual respect, trust & love... and to treat everyone more like my extended family rather than just customers. I also felt that my ancestors 'self-help' practices were fast disappearing and wanted to preserve and pass them on, so future generations could learn to appreciate 'food as medicine'. So working on a purely spiritual level, I was guided to integrate 'Natural Foods with Medicinal & Culinary Herbs for optimum/sustainable (whole-body) health
and developed an extraordinary range of products to provide the basic essential tools from which to awaken, inspire and empower people to heal themselves. Hence... nature, nurture and social responsibility are the key elements that govern GRAMMA'S."
